Course Description: |
Designed by Ryder Cup star Des Smyth, Ashbourne Golf Club opened in 1991. A Parkland Golf Course it measures 5,884 m off the blue stakes with a Par of 71 and Standard Scratch of 70 it is not unduly long by championship standards. Nevertheless by virtue of its design, it is a true test for every category of golfer. The Broadmeadow River is complemented by, three man-made lakes bringing water into play on nine of the holes. The course has a multitude of mature trees and these combined with the water sets the challenge to every golfer who graces its fairways.
The feature hole on the outward nine is undoubtedly the 340 meter 3rd Index 2 which requires a demanding tee shot followed by a medium iron to an inviting green protected by the Broadmeadow River. Ashbourne boasts its own Amen Corner, from the 11th to 14th inclusive are as challenging a sequence of holes you will find anywhere and if you negotiate these in regulation you are assured of a good score. Your game will finish with a gentle Par 4 at 327 m Index 13 to an inviting green well protected by mature Beech trees.
A full bar and catering service is available in the friendly atmosphere of the fine clubhouse.
