Course Description
.
Until 1992, Adare Manor Golf Club was the most picturesque 9-hole golf course I had the pleasure of playing. As with many other Golf Clubs throughout the country the demand was such that it was decided to extend to 18-holes.

The late Eddie Hackett was retained to extend the course and in typical Hackett style he married the old with the new to create a magnificent 5,706, yard Par 69 with a standard scratch of 69. Adare Manor has produced many fine golfers, the most famous being Jackie Harrington who was capped for Ireland many times, but his finest hour came when he won the Irish Close Championship at Ballybunion in 1979.

Adare Manor celebrated its centenary in the Millennium with the erection of a 5,000 year-old bog oak sculpture at the back of the 18th green. They also buried a time capsule at the base of the sculpture with the intention of resurrecting it in the year 2050. One wonders what the world will be like then?

Club History
.

Instituted 1900 affiliated 1932.

Adare Manor is first mentioned in the Irish Golfer on 5th December 1900 "where Ben Sayers laid out a private course for this enthusiastic gentleman (Lord Dunraven)".

A later account in "Golf Illustrated" on 21st November, 1902, describes the nine holes of the course and gives a full account of the origins of the club. It states "The Club was instituted in September 1900, but the course had been opened two years previously as a private one. The membership is now close on 60 and the management vested in a committee appointed by Lord Dunraven"

Adare Manor Golf Club won the All-Ireland Pierce Purcell Shield at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club in 1984, when the team was, Tom Hickey, Dan Duggan, Michael Counihan, Milo Spillane, Liam Heffernan, Michael Ryan, Tom Griffin, Michael McNamara, Tom Howard, Seamus Ryan, Patsy O'Sullivan, Liam Purcell, Pat Collins and Gerry O'Connell, the were captained by Sean Hutch and the selectors were Brendan Doran and Michael Hunt.

They won the J. B. Carr County Championship in 2002, when the team was M. Ryan (Pallas) P. Cremins, T. G. Geary, S. Fitzgibbon, P. O'Sullivan, P. Carroll, P. Franklin, J. O'Dwyer, D. McInerney, F. Timmons, J. Little and P. Quinlivan.

They won the Munster Club Championship in 1990, Michael Ryan, Brian Hickey, John Hickey, Kevin Ryan, Gerry Howard, Jerry O'Connell, Tom Howard and Tom Kelly, they were captained by Sean McMahon.

They won the Quaid Cup in 1985 at Shannon Golf Club, when the team was D. Collins, J. Dunleavy, P. Reeves, T. O'Donoghue, J, O'Dwyer, P. Cashman, B. Rowley, P. Sheehin and they were captained by D. Ryan. They won it again in 2003 & 2004.

Trish Kenny won the Munster Final of the Lucozade-Irish Independent Longest Drive Competition at the County Tipperary Golf & Country Club in September 2001-2005.

S. McMahon was elected Honorary Secretary of the Munster Branch of the GUI for 2001.

Mary Nolan saw her handicap drop from 35 to 31 over a matter of eight days. Although having a very busy year as Treasurer of the ladies section during Adare Manors centenary year, Mary's first win came in the open singles with a score of 39pts., followed three days later when she won the Lady Adare Cup with 67 net. She then teamed up with Bobbie Penn to win the Fourball with 44 pts. four days latter. They got off to a dream start when Bobbie aced the first.

Playing in the President's Prize to the Ladies Monica Byrne shot a fine 68 net to beat her daughter Sara on a count back.
