Carrick-on-Shannon have recently opened 9 new holes making a 5,728 metre course par 70 off the back tees. The Ladies now play off 4,916 metres par 71, both play off a Standard Scratch of 70.

Club History

Instituted 1910,affiliated 1910. The Irish Golfers Guide, 1911, lists Carrick-on-Shannon as affiliating to the GUI in 1910. It describes it as a short course, only playable during the winter months. The Captain was D. A. Steadman, D.I., R.I.C., and it had 40 members. The same publication in 1916, says "it is situated close to the Shannon, there are a considerable number of natural hazards in the way of ditches, hedges and streams".

Members Achievements

Carrick-on-Shannon won their first Connacht Final of the Jimmy Bruen Shield and were drawn against Ballybunion in the All-Ireland Semi-Final at Rosslare Golf Club on 16th September 2005. In only their second year as an 18-hole Championship course “Carrick” lifted their first men’s pennant.They were drawn against Munster Champions Ballybunion in the All-Ireland Semi-Final. With Noel Sharkey & Alan Ffrench leading the way against Brendan McKeon & Eoin O’Shaughnessy in the first match they lost out by 5 and 4. They were followed by Sean Mulvey & Albert Hogg, who halved their match against Didgie O’Connor & David Mulvihill. The 3rd match say Felim Gately & Johnny Martin against Edward Stack & Dominic Moriarty who lost by 4 and 3 Next on the tee was Noel McDermott & Joey Casey against Jonathan Murphy & Kieran Kennelly who lost by 4 and 3. The bottom match say Sean Bohan & Darragh Burke pitched against Mark Dilger & Des O’Donnell who halved their match.

Carrick-on-Shannon won the Cecil Ewing Shield in 1991. They won the Connaught Shield in 1966, when the team was Paddy Doherty, Noce Garvey, Kevin Hogg, Jim Cummins, Bro Hugh, Laddie O'Sullivan, Bro French, Mick Gaffeny, Gerry Rafferty, Damien Walsh, Joe Lavin, Sean Mullarkey, Steve Sullivan, Billy Craig and Des Monaqhan.

They were finalists in 1963 when the team was Dr. Kevin Hogge, Mick Gaffney, Nace Garvey, Jim Cummins, Jack Hennessey, David O'Shaughnessy, Joe Lavin, Damion Walsh, Paraic Flanagan, Tony Murray, Des Lonaghan and Sylvester McDermott. They were back in the final of the Connaught Shield in 1996, when the team was D. McMahoon, J. Martin, M. Devane, N. McDermott, K. Moran, P. O'Donnell, A. Hogg, T. Aherne, D. Neary, L. Mulvey, N. Sharkey and J. Carney. They were captained by J. McCarthy.

Andrew Lynch has the unique distinction of representing his Province in Boys, Youths and Seniors, he was the first player to achieve this distinction in Irish Golf.

Sean Flanagan was on the first Connaught team to win the Inter-Provincial Tityle at Rosses Point in August 1967.

The Ladies of Carrick-on-Shannon won the Huzzar vodka Ladies Foursomes in 1984, when the team was Anne Campbell and Patricia Harman.

They won the Connaught Final of the Huzzar vodka Ladies Foursomes in 1984.

They won the I.L.G.U. Western District of the Linda Black Trophy in 2001 and were finalists in 2000, when the team was C. Kenny, M. O'Rourke, H. Martin, N. Campbell and B. Patterson. They were captained by P. Nolan and B. Kenny.

They won the Connaught Smurfit Girls Juvenile Trophy in 1977, with Ann Dillon, Mary O'Carroll and Oonagh Talbot.

They won the Ladies Lonleitros 1999, 1998, 1997, 1996, 1994 and 1990.

Ann Campbell won the I.L.G.U. All-Ireland Gold Medal in 1988. Patricia Harman won the Ladies Golfing Union Challenge Bowl, Silver Division, at Athlone Golf Club on July 22nd 1982.

1996 Captain, Leo Mulvey, played a round of golf with my hero Seve at Woodbrook G. C.

Carrick-on-Shannon's Ladies won the Lina Black Trophy, Western District, Captained by Peggy Nolan at Co. Sligo in 2001.

Lina Black, Western District was won by 1997 Lady Captain Peggy Nolan.

Hogan represented Connaught from 1979 to 1985, having played 15 matches.
