Oughterard has recently undergone major redevelopment under the watchful eye of Paddy Merrigan who has been responsible for many fine course layouts in recent years. Measuring 5,876 meters par-70 with a standard scratch of 69 off the back tees. Oughterard is now a course of Championship standard, but tailored to the skills of all golfers. The new clubhouse was opened in May of the Millennium providing the golfer with everything he/she requires, from quality food served in the restaurant to state of the art changing rooms.

Set on the shores of Lough Corrib, this beautiful parkland course is always in pristine condition with generous fairways and a variety of mature trees, shrubs and water hazards waiting to punish that wayward shot.Oughterard is renowned for its friendly atmosphere and the visitor is assured of a warm West of Ireland welcome and a memorable game of golf, on this course located only 15 miles from Galway City at the gateway to Connemara.

Club History
.

There are early accounts of golf being played at Oughterard as far back as 1906. The "Irish Field" 23rd June 1906 records "Golf continues to hum in Galway and at Oughterard a golf course is to be laid out near this picturesque little village of that name some seventeen miles from Galway." The present club gives its foundation date as 1973 the course architects were D. Harris and Eddie Hackett. Then in 1999 it was redesigned by Paddy Merrigan and opened for play in May, 2000. A beautiful new clubhouse was opened in 1999.
