Course Description:

Donaghadee Golf Club is conveniently situated to Northern Ireland’s main air and sea ports. Lying on the main A2 road, 5 miles south of Bangor, the course and clubhouse have magnificent sea views. The course consists of semi-links and parkland with 18 holes in two 9 hole loops, covering 5,570 metres with a par of 71. 

There are two putting greens convenient to the clubhouse and a practice range with two chipping practice greens and bunkers.The club celebrated its centenary in 1999. Its main recent achievement was the hosting of the All Ireland Youth Tournament in 2001. The week-long competition was a great success and lead to Donaghadee Golf Club being included in the database of competition courses maintained by St. Andrews. The Clubhouse has full facilities for changing/showers. 

Renowned for its social life, the club runs a very full entertainment program. The club bar and caterers provide high quality refreshments at reasonable prices, catering for parties of all sizes.

Instituted 1899 affiliated 1900 In the winter of 1898 a committee of LT. Co. Louis De-Lacherois, Adam Duffin, and William Gabbey, took up the call for a golf links. Twenty-two acres were leased from the local squire Daniel DeLacherois and Mr. William Fernie of Troon, Scotland was retained to plan the links. The lay-out had three holes bordering the water’s edge, in the Warren and the other six holes were on the landward side of the main road. Sixteen members attended the inaugural meeting and the course opened on Friday 28th July 1899 at 4.00 pm. The official opening was carried out by, Lord Londonderry of Mount Stewart, assisted by his daughter Lady Helen Stewart and his son Viscount Caslereagh. The club has enjoyed the patronage of Ramsey McDonald and Herr Von Ribbentrop. 

On the 5th July, 1902 the new club pavilion was opened and in the summer of 1907 a further 70 acres were leased from the DeLacherois family and the new clubhouse was opened on 27th July that year and the new eighteen-holes were opened. Over the years there have been many alterations and extensions. The last major facelift took place in 1992 and the, official opening was preformed by Mrs G. M. Stone, the niece of Louis DeLacherois.The first professional was Alexander Gray in 1909 and he was also the first green keeper in 1899.

Members Achievements

Donaghadee Golf Club won the Ulster and All-Ireland Finals of the Irish Club Youths' in 2007, and made the journey to Malahide Golf Club on Tuesday 21st August to participate in the All-Ireland decider.

They met Leinster Champions, The Island Golf Club, Munster Champions, Castletroy Golf Club and Connacht Champions Claremorris in the All-Ireland Final.

They had a clear-cut win over their opposition returning a score of 296 as against The Islands 302, Castletroy’s 311 and Claremorris 313. The team on the day was W. McCulley, Garth Boyd and L. Summerville.     

Donaghadee Golf Club won the Ulster Final of the BMW Irish Mixed Foursomes and were drawn against Munster Champions Newcastle West at Monkstown Golf Club in the All-Ireland Semi-Final on 1st September 2005.

They were lead by G. Boyd & L. Lister in the first match against N. O’Grady & T. O’Shaughnessy, the match went all the way to the 19th before the point went to the Newcastle West duo. They were followed by J. McNaught & N. McCully who had an off day when going down to F. Geary & K. Cussen by 6 and 4. Next up were W. Cully & S. Stockton who halved their match against T. O’Connor & Margaret McAuliffe. The penultimate pair was N. Boyd & D. Boyd who had a convincing 3 and 1 win over F. Moore & Martina McAuliffe. The anchor team was T. Moore & E. Alcock against M. Stack & J. Scanlan who lost by 3 and 2.

Donaghadee won the Irish Mixed Foursomes at Royal Portrush G. C. in 1978.

Darren Adams won the National Golden Putter Award at Wentworth in 1996

P. Brunton played Ulster Youths in 1981.

Pearl Boyd won the Irish Close Championship in 1962.
