This mature parkland course, which was extended a few years back to 18-holes. It’s feature holes would be the 6th "Pond Hole" 336 yards, par 4, index 7, with the pond coming into play on your left, the 10th, a long 221 yard, par 3 index 4 which will often require a driver off the tee and the 14th, 521 yards, par 5, index 2 requiring accuracy off the tee.
The new millennium brought success for the juvenile section of the club as winners of the Fred Daly Trophy and also UK finalists in the Sunday Telegraph junior team championships. A warm welcome awaits you at Banbridge Golf Club. |

Instituted 1913 affiliated 1914The records prior to 1922 are unavailable. The Irish Golfers Guide gives the foundation as 1913 we reckon 1912. The Captain was D. W. Smyth and the Hon. Secretary, W. Haughton Smyth. It gives it as a nine-hole course about half a mile from the station and 2,760 yards long. Raymond Burns assures me it was a twelve-hole course when he was playing his golf out of Banbridge. It is now an eighteen-hole course.

Richard Kilpatrick was part of the victorious Irish Team that won the European Amateur Championship at Western Gailes on the Ayrshire Cost, on Saturday 7th July 2007, when they overcame a strong French team by 4 ½ matches to 2 ½ matches. Ireland had not won this Championship since 1987, the other members of the team were Rory McIlroy (Hollywood Golf Club), Jonathan Caldwell (Clandeboye Golf Club), Simon Ward (Co. Louth), Shane Lowry (Esker Hills Golf Club) well done lads and we will continue to follow your progress in the years to come.
Banbridge Golf Club won the Ulster Final of The Irish Senior Cup in 2007, and it was on to the All-Ireland Finals at Shandon Park Golf Club on Friday 14th September, where they were drawn against Leinster Champions Portmarnock Golf Club in the All-Ireland Semi-Finals.
The star-studded team on the day was, Rory Leonard, Alistair McCully, Richard Kilpatrick, Connor Doran, and Jim Carvill.
First on the tee was Rory Leonard against Michael Brett, Rory won his match by 5 and 4; he was followed by Alistair McCully against Geoff Lenehan who beat the Portmarnock man by 3 and 2. Next on the tee was the reigning East of Ireland Champion Richard Kilpatrick against David Kelleher who had a convincing 6 and 5 win. He was followed by Conor Doran against the veteran and multiple Amateur Championship winners Adrian Morrow, but he proved too good for Adrian on the day to record a 4 and 3 win. Jim Carvill played at anchor (Jim won the East of Ireland and the South of Ireland in 2005) against Niall Goulding and halved the match giving the Ulster Champions a convincing 4 ½ matches to ½ match over the Leinster Champions.
They met Connacht Champions Co. Sligo in the All-Ireland decoder on Saturday 15th September; however things were not to go as smoothly as in the Semi-Final.
Rory Leonard was first up again against Martin McTernan who lost his match by 2 and 1, Richard Kilpatrick beat Seryth Heavey by 3 and 1. He was followed by Connor Doran who halved his match with Keith O'Neill; Alistair McCully had a bad day against Gary McDermott when he lost his match by 6 and 4. It was all down to the final match of Jim Carvill against David Dunne, but the Rosses Point man was to just shade it with a 1-hole win to determine where the Irish Senior Cup would rest for 2007/2008.
Banbridge Golf Club won the Ulster Final of the Irish Junior Cup in 2006, when they beat Portadown Golf Club by 4 matches to one match at Lurgan Golf Club on 27th August.
It was on to Enniscrone Golf Club for the National Finals, where they where drawn against Munster Champions Tramore Golf Club in the All-Ireland Semi-Final on Wednesday 13th September.
First on the tee was Neil Clydesdale against Danny Linehan, who had a comfortable win of 3 and 2. He was followed by Trevor Woods against Alan Browne who clamed victory by the same margin. Next up was Jonathan Burns who beat Barrie Rogers by 2 and 1. Banbridge had now booked their place in the All-Ireland Final. Gareth Gillespie had one of those days and lost out to Paul O’Sullivan. The final match was halved between Rory Madeley and John O’Brien.
They met the Leinster Champions Castle Golf Club the following day in the decider. First up was Neil Clydesdale against Simon Lynch, who had a bad day losing out by 7 and 6. Next on the tee was Trevor Woods who secured a vital point against Ronan Burke on the 19th-hole. He was followed by Jonathan Burns who had a comfortable win over Omer Bhamjee by 6 and 5. The penultimate match saw Ross McCandless secured the match against Ross Kinsella by 2 and 1. Rory Madeley lost out to Marc Dillon by 2 and 1. However the Green Pennant was in the bag to record their second All-Ireland, having won the Barton Shield in 2003.
Richard Kilpatrick was selected to play in the Home Internationals at Prestwick Golf Club from 8th to 10th September 2004.
Banbridge Golf Club won their first ever senior green pennant since the club was founded in 1912, when they beat a strong Stackstown Golf Club team at Lisburn Golf Club on Thursday 11 th September 2003 in the All-Ireland Final of the Barton Shield. Having accounted for Connacht Champions Connemara Golf Club in the Semi-Final by 3-holes, when Conor Doran & Kieran Magennis beat Derek McNamara & G. O'Donnell by 3-holes. They were followed by “big” Rory Leonard & Ciaran McAleavey who halved their match with D. Scully & D. Stapleton in the morning.
The afternoon saw Conor Doran & Kieran Magennis pitched against the McDermott brothers Michael (a former West of Ireland winner) and John who they beat by 1-hole. The second match of Rory Leonard & Ciaran McAleavey against former South of Ireland winner Mark Campbell & Liam Ryan was a cliff-hanger with the Banbridge pair won a magnificent halve and delivering the All-Ireland pennant to this club that has produced some outstanding players, not least Remi Burns.
Banbridge continued its success in the Club Youths' Championship, when they retained the Ulster Title in 2002. The team of Conor Doran, Richard Kilpatrick, Ciaran McAleavey and Dean Nicoletti, they went to Royal Tara Golf Club on August 26 th to defend the Championship. They beat Munster Champions Douglas on a count back with a score of 296 to take the All-Ireland title.
Banbridge Golf Club won the All-Ireland Fred Daly title at Roscrea Golf Club in August 2002, when the team was, Neil Honeyford, Ciaran McAleavey, Rory Doran, Mark Honeyford, Gareth Bronte, Dean Nicoletti, Richard Kilpatrick and Conor Doran, they were managed by Aidan Doran and Sean Quinn.
Banbridge Golf Club won the All-Ireland Club Youths' Championship in 2001
Banbridge Golf Club won the BMW Ulster Mixed Foursomes in 2001.
Aidan Doran was selected as Captain of the Ulster Youths' team for 2001.
Richard Kilpatrick was selected on the Irish Youths team to play in Gdansk, Poland on July 9 th 2002.
Richard Kilpatrick was selected on the Ulster team for the Interprovincial Matches played at Portmarnock Golf Club from 11th to 13th August 2004.
Ciaran McAleavey was selected on the Ulster Boys' team for the Interprovincial's at Headfort Golf Club from August 28-30 2002 and Rory Doran was non-travelling reserve.
Following their success in the Fred Daly the previous year. The young men from Banbridge continued their winning ways when they won the Irish Club Youths Championship Final at Nenagh Golf Club in September 2001. This time they won with the best card second-round counting. They recorded scores of Conor Doran 80-70, Richard Kilpatrick 72-75 and Ciaran McIleavey 74-77 for a total of 291. This competition is the best two cards counting. They piped Hermitage on a count back, with Muskerry in 3 rd place and Ballinasloe in 4th.
Banbridge won the Fred Daly Trophy at Strandhill G.C. in August 2000, when they beat Westport by 3-2 in a thrilling All-Ireland final, with all matches going the distance. The team was Noel Kavanagh, Richard Kilpatrick, Ciaran McAleavey, Conor Doran, and Ross McCandless.
Conor Doran was runner-up in the Irish Boys Amateur Close Championship at Strandhill on 25 th August 2000. He was, beaten into second place by, Derek McNamara from Connemara.
Banbridge is continuing to produce fine young golfers with Conor Doran representing Ireland in the European Boys' Championship in Holland in July 2000. He took 4.5 points out of a possible 5 for the team that was piped by Scotland in the final. He and his fellow club-mate, Richard Kilpatrick, were selected on the Boys' Home International team at Portmarnock G. C. on 9 th to 11 th August 2000.
Rory Leonard was selected to represent Ireland at the Maidstone Club in New York on 13-14 October 1999 and he was runner-up in the West of Ireland Championship at Enniscrone G. C. on 5 th May, 1999, the winner being Mikko Ilonen from Finland. Rory was selected on the Ulster team for the Interprovincial Matches played at Portmarnock Golf Club from 11th to 13th August 2004.
Raymond Burns participated in the Home International matches in 1991 and 1992 winning 9 of his 12 matches and played in the Boys from 1988 to 1991. He played Ulster Youths in 1990 and 1991, playing 12 matches. R. Leonard participated in the Boys Home International matches in 1994. He won the Tom Montgomery Perpetual Award in 1994 with 135 points and represented Ulster in 1997 he played Ulster Youths from 1995 to 1997 playing 17 matches. Conor Doran represented Ireland in the Boys' Home Internationals at Conway, Wales, in August 1999, and played Ulster Boys in 1998 winning 5 of his 6 matches.
