Club History
Club History

Instituted 1912 affiliated 1912. According to The Irish Golfers Guide 1912, City of Derry was first called City of Londonderry Golf Club. This was changed by the time the 1914 edition was published which records"City of Derry Golf Club a nine-hole course, situated at Phehan, two miles from Londonderry, Hon. Secretary, A. Price, Shipquay Place, Londonderry." The 1939 Irish Golfers Blue Book records "In November, 1911, a meeting was held in Londonderry when the formation of the club was decided on. Ground was taken on lease at Prehan and nine-holes were laid out by the celebrated, Willie Park.

Later extra land was purchased and in 1930 the course was extended to 18 holes. Sand bunkers were constructed to the plan of Mr. Harry Colt after the latter inspected the links. A new clubhouse was erected in 1922 at a cost of £2,500"The clubhouse was destroyed by an explosion and fire in 1982, and the club records were lost. The members built a magnificent new clubhouse and an additional nine-holes were added in 1984.
